CONTENT Black & Grey
Black & Grey Tattoo is divided into three parts: Traditional Black & Grey, Dark/Horror, and Photorealism, it's a massive collection, made up of over 1,000 photos and 860 color photographs! Indeed, there's commonalities among the different styles, but the breakdown isn't just for easier lifting of this monster collection. It is to show how tattoos with similar stylistic elements are interpreted differently by stellar artists around the world.
Volume 1 focuses on Chicano style, prison, and street tattoo art. Interviews with Jack Rudy and Jesus "Chuey" Quintanar round out this first volume. Their stories and tattoo work are followed by the gallery, which includes tattoos from: Freddy Negrete, Brian Everett, and Mark Mahoney.
Volume 2 focuses on the "dark side" of black & grey tattoo, from sci-fi to macabre. Interviews with Xu Zhicheng of Tianzhilong Tattoo and Paul Booth, the "Dark Lord of Tattooing," round out this second volume. Their stories and tattoo work are followed by the gallery, in it you'll find eveything from shrunken heads to Frankensteins to famous tattoo artists rendered as zombies!
Volume 3 focuses on photorealistic art and translates it on the body; it concentrates on portraiture, scenery, and even fantastical images rendered in true-to-life tableaux. Included are interviews with the legendary Bob Tyrrell and Andy Engel, followed with a gallery of work that has invigorated the tattoo community with the possibilities of mastering a difficult art on a difficult canvas.
