High as a Kite: A Guide to Marijuana, put together by Danny G, is a 132-page hardcover devoted entirely to cannabis in tattoo art. It pulls together contemporary and vintage tattoo flash, photography, memorabilia and illustrations from more than 80 artists, making it one of the largest collections on the subject.
The range runs from 1970s flash, such as Mark Renold's skull-and-wings biker design and a cannabis plant growing through a peace sign, to modern sheets by artists like Matt Houston and Josh Davis, with smoking ladies, crying eyes, skulls, sacred hearts and a spider rolling a joint. It's a fun look at how one theme has been handled across generations of tattooers.
For tattooers it's a ready source of themed flash for clients who want a leaf in their piece; for collectors it's an entertaining slice of tattoo culture.
