CONTENTColor Tattoo Flash
Original Tattoo Flash of John W. Harden, compiled by Chad Knight, collects hand-painted flash by John Wesley Harden, a prolific tattooer and one-time member of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. Harden worked between Florida and Alabama, and his designs reflect what was being worn in the Southeast in the 1970s, '80s and '90s, especially among bikers and military personnel.
The 112-page hardcover is filled with color tattoo flash: snakes, skulls, dragons, motors and engine imagery, fairies on mushrooms and plenty of other biker-era subjects. It is not his complete body of painted work, but it is a strong cross-section of a style that rarely makes it into print.
For tattooers, this tattoo flash book is a source of bold, readable designs with a regional and subcultural flavor you won't find in the usual traditional collections. For collectors, it documents a period when tattooing still felt underground and a little dangerous.
