Eagles: Redrawing Tradition is an 80-page collection of paintings and sketches by tattooer Tim Beck, devoted entirely to one of the most important subjects in American traditional tattooing. When he is not tattooing, Beck is painting, and this book gathers the results.
The pages move between finished, full color traditional eagle flash and loose pencil sketches, including eagles in flight, perched, and worked into classic compositions. Seeing the sketches next to the painted versions shows how a design is built up from rough gesture to clean, readable tattoo, and how much variety there is in a subject that can easily become repetitive.
