Communion is Carlos Truan's record of the work that has come out of his shop, Communion, since it opened. Across 203 softcover pages it gathers tattoo stencils, illustrations, collages and photographs, often showing a stencil next to the healed or finished tattoo it became, so you can see how a drawing translates to skin.
Subjects in the stencils include women, female saints and scorpions, presented as clean line work you can study for weight, flow and placement. Collages and shop photographs fill out the book and give it the feel of a working tattoo sketchbook rather than a polished art monograph.
Each copy comes with a 22 x 22 inch beige bandana printed with a selection of Carlos Truan's designs in purple ink. The book is a useful stencil and sketchbook reference for working tattooers, and a good shelf piece for collectors who follow Truan's work.
