Japanese Flora Vol. 2 is Sören Sangkuhl's follow-up to his well-received 2018 first volume: a 148-page, 11" x 15" hardcover of botanical line drawings for Japanese tattooing. It grew out of years of close study of the flowers and foliage that carry so much meaning in Japanese work - plum blossoms, chrysanthemums, lotus and more.
The drawings are clean, open linework rather than finished paintings, which makes them easy to read and adapt. You can see how a bloom is built petal by petal, how leaves turn and overlap, and how a flower can be arranged to fit a sleeve or back piece.
This Japanese tattoo book is aimed at tattooers working in Japanese and floral styles who want accurate botanical reference to draw from, and at collectors of Sangkuhl's drawing. If you own the first volume, this one extends the range of plants without repeating it.
