CONTENTFlash, Photos, & Tales
The second volume of The Tattooers Almanac, edited by Gordon "Wrath" McCloud and Patrick Kitzel, mixes vintage tattoo flash with the stories of the people who drew and tattooed it. Inside are flash and drawings from Don Nolan, Scott Sterling, Zeke Owens and others, along with acetates and photographs of tattoos and tattooers.
The interviews are a big part of the appeal. Mike Perfetto, Ronnie Dell'Aquila and Mike Schweigert each talk about their time in the trade, giving first-hand context to the images around them. It reads like a scrapbook from the shops and an oral history at the same time.
At 120 pages in a large 8.5" x 11" softcover, it's a solid piece of tattoo history for collectors and a source of usable traditional reference for tattooers who want designs with real lineage behind them.
