Brooklyn Joe Lieber (1888-1953) is one of the foundational names in early American tattooing and a mentor to Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins. Born in Brooklyn, he made his career in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he and Collins swapped hundreds of designs and developed drawing and painting styles so close they can be hard to tell apart.

American Tattoo Master, edited by Don Ed Hardy for Hardy Marks, collects Lieber's color flash and drawings in a large 11" x 15" hardcover. The scale lets you study his linework, shading and palette sheet by sheet - eagles, ladies, panthers, flowers and banners rendered with the economy that defines traditional tattoo flash.
