The Tattoo Catalogue: 2024 is the second limited-edition catalog from Bray & Co., curated by Derin Bray to accompany the auction house's August 25, 2024 sale. It documents more than 300 rare lots: newly surfaced tattoo flash, vintage photographs, shop signs, tattoo machines, sideshow banners, business cards and other artifacts from across tattoo history.
Essays and previously unpublished images bring out new material from Amund Dietzel, Tatts Thomas, Percy Waters, Bert Grimm, Charlie Wagner, Frank Howard and many others. The sale centered on the collections of three pioneering tattooers and suppliers: Huck Spaulding (1928-2013), "Tattoo Charlie" Geizer (1905-1980) and Edward "Dad" Liberty. Framed sheets of Pharaoh's Horses, pinups, hearts, skulls and military designs are reproduced in full color alongside the equipment.
Because most of these pieces have now gone into private hands, the catalog is often the only place to study them. It is a valuable tattoo history book for collectors and a deep source of vintage tattoo flash for working tattooers.
