CONTENTBlack & white imagery and text
Crap Hound is Sean Tejaratchi's clip-art zine, started in Portland, Oregon in 1994. Each issue collects high-contrast black and white images from old catalogs, ads, books and ephemera, sorts them by subject and runs them alongside Tejaratchi's wry commentary, giving artists an organized, usable image bank.
Issue 16 was meant to be Cakes & Pies, which Tejaratchi had announced in the previous issue, before the birds took over. The result is 100 pages of owls and crows: perched owls, owls with books, crows in flight, birds paired with witches and other night imagery, all as crisp line art and engravings.
Owls and crows are steady requests in tattoo shops, and this issue gives tattooers a deep stack of reference poses and styles for traditional and illustrative designs. Collage artists and Crap Hound collectors will want it in the run. Cakes & Pies may still show up one day.
