Colorado Nick Wisner was a war-era tattooer whose career ran through pool halls, barracks, mining camps, arcades and roadside stops across the American West. Born in 1914, he worked in a Victor gold mine as a young man, travelled as a tattooer through the 1930s and 40s, including time in Chicago and on Army and Navy bases, and settled in Colorado Springs in the 1950s.
This 320-page hardcover by Scott Boyer is the product of more than ten years of research. It collects hundreds of sheets of rare and previously unpublished flash along with photographs, postcards, personal letters and first-hand accounts of Nick's life. It also profiles the tattooers who worked around him on the Front Range, including Leon Miller, Denver Don, Quincy Lee Cooper, Rocky Albin and Frenchie, whose work was rarely documented at the time.
It is a major regional tattoo history book and a deep source of vintage tattoo flash for anyone who collects or works in American traditional.
