CONTENTBlack & White
Crap Hound 6 is devoted to three subjects: death, phones and scissors. Sean Tejaratchi's long-running clip art zine, started in Portland in 1994, collects high-contrast black and white images from old catalogs, advertisements, obscure publications and other found ephemera, and lays them out by theme.
The death section runs from pirate skull and crossbones to memento mori, which makes it especially useful for tattooers. The phone and scissors chapters are full of vintage product illustrations with clean, confident line work that reads well at any size. This is the fifth printing of issue 6, and it adds a 24-page supplement, bringing the total to 124 pages.
Tattoo artists, illustrators and collage makers all use Crap Hound as reference, and this issue is a favorite for its skulls alone. Pick up Crap Hound 8: Superstition to keep building the series.
