Claws are one of the hardest parts of a dragon to get right, and Dragon Claws tackles them head on. Across 198 pages, Filip Leu sketches more than 2,000 claws: two-, three-, four- and five-toed versions, close studies of individual talons and scale patterns, and claws gripping, reaching and twisting in dozens of positions.
Leu, born in Paris in 1967 and raised in a family of artists, began tattooing at 14 and co-founded the Leu Family Iron studio in Switzerland with his parents, Felix and Loretta. He is best known for large-scale Japanese-style bodywork, and dragons are central to that work.
This is a working reference rather than a showpiece. Tattooers building Japanese sleeves and back pieces can use it to vary claw anatomy and posture from one dragon to the next, and anyone drawing dragons will find it a focused study tool. It is a must-have Japanese tattoo book for serious dragon work.
