Mike "Rollo" Malone bought Sailor Jerry Collins' Hotel Street shop in Honolulu after Collins died in 1973 and ran it as China Sea Tattoo until 2001. His sketchbooks became go-to references for traditional tattooers, and this is the first time they have been reissued since his death.
Sketchbook Vol. 1 (1996) is 40 pages of line drawings in a spiral-bound 8.5" x 11" format, finished with a green screen-printed cover. Inside are the classic subjects drawn in Malone's clean, readable hand: skulls and crosses, roses and hearts, bulls and tigers, and more. Because they are outlines, they translate directly into stencils or serve as a guide for building your own versions.
For shops that want genuine traditional tattoo outlines on the counter, and for collectors of Sailor Jerry lineage, this is a key book. A 2006 edition of Vol. 1 with a pink cover is also available.
