Mike "Rollo" Malone is a central figure in the Sailor Jerry lineage. After Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins died in 1973, Malone took over his Hotel Street shop, China Sea Tattoo, and ran it until 2001. He later worked with Ed Hardy on two Sailor Jerry flash books, and his Mr. Flash business put his sheets on the walls of shops around the world. He died in 2007.
This is the reissue of his 2006 sketchbook, the first time his sketchbooks have been reprinted since his death. It has a pink screen-printed cover and 50 spiral-bound pages of tattoo line drawings: Native American heads, skulls and snakes with daggers, crosses and other bold traditional subjects, drawn with the clean, readable line that made his flash so widely copied.
For tattooers it works as a ready source of American traditional outlines and a lesson in solid design. For collectors it is a piece of Malone's later output. A 1996 Vol. 1 with a green cover is also available.
