Dave Gibson - Drawings collects the sketches, line drawings and stencils that Dave Gibson kept in his own reference books, later passed on to Geo Rogers and scanned for this edition. The 115-page softcover reproduces the material as working pages, the way a tattooer actually stored and reused designs.
Flipping through, you will find dragons, death figures and devil women, lady heads framed with flowers, fish, butterflies, geishas, pirates, sailors, spiders and eagles. Many pages show drawings in progress and stencil outlines rather than finished flash, which is exactly what makes a tattoo sketchbook like this useful: you can see how a design was blocked out and simplified before it went on skin.
It is a solid reference for traditional tattooers who want line work to study and redraw, and a nice piece for collectors of shop ephemera. This was a one-time print run limited to 1,000 books.
