CONTENTLine Drawings
This book of sketches by Ade Stacey was the first in a "classics" range: straightforward, well-made books of clearly drawn reference for traditional tattoo imagery. Ade's volume focuses on Japanese subjects, drawn as line work across 128 pages.
Inside you'll find koi, oni, namakubi, dragons, kirin, jorogumo, flowers and snakes, as well as warrior and theatrical figures, demons and mythical characters. Because the drawings are uncolored, they're easy to study for composition and flow, or to adapt into your own designs.
The hardcover is a handy 5 7/8" x 8 1/4", sized to keep at the station. It's a reliable Japanese tattoo book for tattooers building their irezumi vocabulary and a good entry point to Ade's work. His later subject-by-subject studies, such as Hotoke and Bakemono, go deeper into individual themes.
