Stan and Walter Moskowitz, known as the Bowery Boys, ran S&W Tattoo on Long Island, New York. Off the Walls of S&W is built from what hung in their shop, gathering the flash, photographs and stories that covered its walls into a 124-page hardcover.
The pages are full of vintage tattoo flash in the classic East Coast vein: wild cats, skulls and daggers, roses, eagles and more, alongside photos of tattooed customers and the shop's own history. It reads as both a design source and a portrait of a working street shop, the kind of wall that customers chose their tattoos from.
This book is a tribute to Stan and Walter's legacy and a strong piece of tattoo history for collectors. Tattooers will find traditional designs with real provenance, printed large enough at 11" x 9" to study in detail. The Bowery Scab Merchant acetate collection of Stan Moskowitz is a natural companion.
